Lake Glenbawn Classic

Lake Glenbawn Classic

It was wet and muddy, however, the miserable conditions did not stop the running of the seventh Glenbawn Classic by Scone Swimming on Australia Day 2012. A total of 65 swimmers braved the rain and cool 21 degree water temperature and took to the water in the 1, 3 and 5 km events. With visiblilty low caused by the gloomy overcast day and steady rain a few swimmers strayed off course, quickly to be redirected back on track by the fantastic volunteers aboard the boats, canoes and kayaks.

The swimmers ages ranged from 9 to 75 and the event attracted both local competitors as well as swimmers from far as Beijing and Cairns. All competitors proved to be an inspiration to us all and make organising and running this great event more than worthwhile. The Overall winner of the 1km race was John Langley from Muswellbrook in the 15-29 age division . The overall winner of the 3 km event was Thomas Heaton from Scone in the 15-29 age division and the 5 km was won by Patrick Day from Cherrybrook in the 12-14 age division. Both Patrick Day and Tanya Wood swam National Qualifying times in the 5 kilometre event, which was a fantastic effort, Congratulations.

The Glenbawn Classic would not happen without the support of our wonderful sponsors and volunteers. A big thank you goes to Invermien, Scone Pool, Scone Grammar School, Scone High School, Upper Hunter Shire Council, Glenbawn State Park, Paddock to Pantry, Ray White Scone, Papanui Farm, Roberts Meats, SES, Tim Godde, Nigel Russell, Steve Kemp and all the dedicated Scone Swimming Club families.
